Sunstone Therapies is pleased to announce that Dr. Manish Agrawal was appointed by Maryland Governor Wes Moore to serve on the state’s Task Force on Responsible Use of Natural Psychedelic Substances. As co-founder and CEO of Sunstone Therapies, Dr. Agrawal brings a unique perspective to the state’s consideration of the public benefits of responsible access to these medicines.

An oncologist by training, Dr. Agrawal became interested in the potential of psychedelic medicines to help cancer patients heal from the mental toll of their cancer diagnosis. Based in Rockville, Maryland, Sunstone is setting the gold standard for the delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapies. By the close of 2024, Sunstone will have completed four studies with an additional eight open clinical trials involving psychedelic medicines paired with therapy, resulting in more than 200 treatments.

“At Sunstone, we’ve seen firsthand the transformative effect that psychedelic substances can have on patients when administered in a safe and effective clinical setting,” said Dr. Agrawal. “I’m excited to partner with experts around the state to study how we may be able to adapt current laws, policies, and practices so that we can potentially bring these life-changing medicines to more patients who suffer from severe mental health illnesses.”

“Thank you to Governor Moore for the opportunity to contribute to the task force, and to the Maryland legislature for having the vision and resolve to take on this important issue,” he added.

In July 2024, the Task Force on Responsible Use of Natural Psychedelic Substances was authorized by the General Assembly. Dr. Agrawal is one of thirteen members of the task force to be appointed by the Governor.
